Keir Mathews
Mental Health Clinician and Counsellor
I am an intuitive and empathetic counsellor, with over twenty years’ experience gained in hospitals, residential rehabilitation, and counselling services. I work with adolescents (15+), adults, couples, families and carers experiencing mental health challenges, from mild to moderate depression, anxiety and interpersonal issues, through to more complex and co-occurring presentations.
I treat the whole person in context. This means I consider the psychological, biological and social determinants of health.
A proud stepdad, I am passionate about men’s and parents’ mental health and wellbeing. I support families of all shapes and sizes to thrive, and I am a Gottman trained couples counsellor. I also work with clients experiencing Alcohol and Other Drug related issues, addictions, and diagnoses such as Schizophrenia and Bipolar.
Prior to private practice, I held teaching roles at the Royal Melbourne Hospital and worked alongside Psychiatrists on the Crisis Assessment (CATT) and Substance Use and Mental Illness Treatment teams.
When I am not working, I enjoy time with my family, gardening and bush walking, and I love getting out of town when I can.
I believe that with the right support and strategies, people can improve their day-to-day functioning, and develop more clarity, optimism and confidence about their circumstances, and their future.
